Dreamland is an immersive installation by Franc, presented as part of the Pandamator Exhibition, which took place in a former clinic. Drawn from the artist’s ongoing project, Breaking the News, this thought-provoking work manipulates real news headlines to create alternative socio-political commentaries, challenging how we consume and interpret media.
For this adaptation, Franc turns the lens on Cyprus, selecting over 30 local news stories that reflect the country’s socio-political landscape. The clinic setting transforms into a space of examination and reflection, where news fragments appear as MRI-like scans displayed across three screens. AI-driven distortions and layered graphic design reveal how information shifts, mutates, and often obscures its original meaning.
A medical lightbox presents two X-ray images on film, composed of overlapping, fragmented headlines. These dense, chaotic visuals invite viewers to analyze and uncover hidden details, much like piecing together a fractured narrative.
By navigating this disorienting landscape of information, viewers become both spectators and analysts, questioning how time and manipulation shape the stories we trust. Dreamland challenges us to reflect on what is lost, distorted, or concealed in the process—urging a deeper exploration of truth, perception, and the power of media.
